About Me

Greetings! I'm Sam, a passionate Game Designer adept in UI/UX hailing from London, UK.

I grew up with an admiration of Gaming and the experiences it could enable; something that other art forms could not achieve. Aside from gaming, I have a fascination for the latest innovations in technology, whether it is PC or Mobile, Hardware or Software. I am a long-time fan of motorsports; particularly Formula One where I will spend much of my weekend immersed in the best blend of technology, automotive, sport and entertainment.

My Gaming Odyssey

My journey in game design began when I played Battlefield 2142 at my friend's house. I was mesmerised by the mix of large-scale maps with all out vehicular warfare.  However, the game that really cemented my desire to work in games was Halo 3. It’s amalgamation of music, storytelling, art style and gameplay demonstrated the power of games to transport people to different worlds, challenge their minds, and forge unforgettable adventures. With this in mind, choice in my curriculum were made with the objective of becoming part of the Games Industry at the forefront.

XP

My first major step was to study Games Technology at University. Outside of 3D Modelling, this was my first foray into skills used throughout the game industry including 3D Modelling, Texturing, Level Design and Coding. My first experience outside of education came during my placement year at university where I was a 3D Modeller and Texture Artist at Blueprint Digital Media on the game Relapse.

After University, I joined Feral Interactive as a QA Technician. During my time as a QA Technician, I learned a great deal about how various roles within a games company work cooperatively towards the goal of releasing a game. My keen eye for detail and love of beautiful UI led to my transfer to the Design Department where I worked on Total War: ROME REMASTERED.  My largest contribution on Rome was designing the plethora of tooltips – relied on so heavily in RTS games. Outside of tooltips, my daily duties saw me head up the modern keyboard controls, modern camera and assist the Lead Designer with making small improvements to the game and its UI/UX while retaining the Lead Designers vision.

Once my time on Rome had concluded, I have given my first Lead Design role on the mobile port of Alien Isolation. My goal was to make Alien Isolation feel like a native game to touch screens while retaining the unmatched horror of the original release. I have since been working as a Lead Designer on a couple of unannounced projects.

Let's Level Up Together!

I'm always on the lookout for exciting opportunities and collaborations within the gaming industry. If you'd like to discuss a game project, explore fresh ideas, or simply chat about the gaming universe, don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my portfolio, and I look forward to connecting with fellow enthusiasts like you!
